So my girlfriend came on Friday to drop her son off and then yesterday her and her daughter came back and we all went to the beach (minus Mike who said he was going to continue work on the shed but didn't lol). I think I need to get better at communication with my friends lol. I tend to be the type to go with whatever they want to do so when my friend had suggested the beach I said sure fine. Then we get there and the sand is so hot we were even burning our feet in our flip flops lol. Then her and her kids are kind of afraid of the water lol.
The Chesapeake Bay is not the clearest water by far and then we heard people talking about jelly fish. So in less than an hour Nick went way out and got himself stung. So then I mentioned that we could have went to the local pool or even the little water park pool they have not to far away. So we ended up packing up all our sandy stuff and heading to the water park pool.
Nick had decided after he got stung and then cut his foot too that he would rather just be dropped at home than to venture somewhere else. I felt bad but was at least glad he had attempted to go out with us. Then my girlfriend's son was bummed that he was the only boy but he went to the pool with us anyway but then was kind of gloomy. My girlfriend though went down the slides with Marie and I and we had a pretty good time. We didn't stay to long. It just seemed they kept closing the pool for periods of time. So after a few hours we just decided to come on home.
With the temps around 110 yesterday outside it wasn't the most pleasant place to be even in the pool. It was really crowded there too. After we got home Mike cooked out for us and then we just hung out and talked. It was a good evening and I was glad they had all come. It had been a long time since their last visit.
Today we got up made breakfast then my friend and her kids hit the road back to DC and her mom's. They will head back to Pittsburgh tomorrow I think she said. Hopefully they had a good mini vacation down this way. I was glad they visited us we always enjoy company. I could tell her son didn't want to leave Nick. They are definitely 2 peas in a pod :)
After they left I got my camelbak and stuff together to hit the trail. The first 6 miles went pretty well even in the 100-107 degree weather. I finished it in 90 mins so a 4 mph speed. Then I came back to the van got a dose of cool air and ate the peanut butter sandwich I had brought. Not sure why I picked that knowing bread sometimes gives me indigestion. I'm sure the fact I ate it so fast didn't help either. So when I headed out for my second 6 miles it just wasn't feeling good to me. By the time I had put in another 2 miles I was feeling pretty sick. I think it was mostly the heat but I'm sure my indigestion wasn't helping. Then I had forgotten to put on sunscreen and being 30 mins from the house meant I wasn't going to go back for it. Thankfully I'm already pretty tan so just got a bit red on my shoulders and nose.
Eventually I stopped at one of the benches along the way to have a few pretzels and a rest. Not sure why I decided to eat anything. I guess I thought maybe they would help with how tired I was feeling. But they just made me feel worse and soon I found myself throwing up on the side of the trail. With it being so hot I saw a total of 4 people on the trail during my whole 12 mile walk and 3 of them were on a bike, thankfully none of them saw my ordeal.
It just wasn't a smart idea to take a walk in that kind of heat today. I was so miserable the last 3 miles. I ended up throwing up a second time. Then I got the shakes I guess because my sugar dropped. So I stopped yet again and ate some of the dried fruit I had brought. It didn't make me feel much better but thankfully the indigestion had gone. But I still had no energy but I just kept walking. My walking was SOOOO slow that last 3 miles. So my second 6 miles ended up taking me 2 1/2 hours with my several stops. Pitiful is all I can say.
The last mile I just found myself praying to get back to the car without having to crawl it. When I finally did get back to the car I just felt defeated. I kept thinking do I really want to walk a marathon. I know I'm capable of it but is it really something I want to put myself through and then still feeling like I can't do it in the time allowed.
I'm really really hoping that when we go to the race walking clinic it will boost my morale about it all. The price of the Baltimore running festival goes up August 1st so I had planned on making my decision before then if I was going to shoot for the 7 hour time limit or was I going to drive all the way to South Carolina in December for the 8 hour marathon there. If I knew Kevin was still going to be there it would be a fairly easy decision but I have a feeling he won't be and he won't find out till the end of Sept so my marathon choice will have to be just on my decision about time limit. I wish there was a marathon closer that had a longer time limit.
Anyway, my next 2 long walks will be in Kentucky. I'm actually looking forward to that and hopefully it won't be so darn hot there. The past 2 yrs I've done my half marathon training in July-Oct and never dealt with a day nearly as hot and humid and miserable as today. I'm hopeful from this point on I won't have to again. I think if there does come another weekend this hot I will most likely just deal with the torture of walking hours on the treadmill at the gym at least I will be cool with no bugs.
Yes, there were still some bugs eating at me today. Of course they waited to unleash on me till that last torturous mile. If you could have been on the trail you would have seen this crazy woman drinking from a camelbak spitting the water in her hand and slapping it all over her arms and neck and swinging her arms around yelling at the bugs to leave her be. Yes, I looked crazy lol but I did get in that 12 mile walk today lol.
It's storming here tonight. Mike and the kids didn't get the shed finished so we have stuff all over the back yard with tarps over it lol. Oh what fun I'm going to have the next few days since it's mostly stuff I need to look through. Then Friday we hit the road for the 10-11 hour drive to Kentucky. I'm crossing my fingers that goes well. I can't wait to have just Mike and I alone for 2 weeks.
Food wasn't to bad this weekend. I really tried hard to be conscious of what I was choosing to eat. My girlfriend has dropped a lot of weight too so I wanted to try to be a good example and not let us fall off the wagon with each other as we have done a few times over the years. The kids were trying to get us to get them ice cream but I didn't cave :) My weight is down today and I'm hoping to maybe be back in leeway on Wednesday.
Well till next time...

Ok, you have always amazed me...but your dedication to go out in this heat just floors me. Sorry to hear that you struggled through it. But count it as a HUGE victory!
Good lord darlin'..you probably had heat stroke. lol. Glad you didn't kick over and good job simply finishing. Get your morale up...you finished a 12 mile walk in over 100 degree heat. That is impressive. Great job.
